Thriving in Practice through Value-Based Care

FREE for 2023 Members • CME and AAPC credit available

Tuesday, March 14, 2023
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST • FREE to OSMA members

  • Value-based care provides a choice to move away from fee for-service into alternative payment models (APMs).
  • Value-based care revolves around the idea of improving healthcare quality for patients and preventing problems before they begin.
  • Value-based care models stress an integrated team approach.
  • Value-based care models include medical homes, accountable care organizations, capitation, shared savings/shared risk.
  • Benefits of value-based care are lower costs, higher patient satisfaction, reduced medical errors, better-informed patients.

Value-based care is emerging as an alternative and potential replacement for fee-for-service reimbursement based on quality rather than quantity and pays physicians retrospectively for services delivered based on bill charges or annual fee schedules. With growing value based care contracts, more physicians are taking the leap into the world of value based care, but not all are succeeding. The complexities of managing changing benchmarks, different payor relationships and decreasing fee for service revenue is putting strain on physicians who have seen anywhere from a 10-30% decrease in revenue due to the recent and current pandemic. But you can be successful in value based care! In this practical session, you will learn the tools necessary to ensure that your practice takes the steps required to succeed.

  1. Consider the basics of value-based care, what metrics matter and how to thrive in practice
  2. Evaluate your practice, workflows and share ideas to improve outcomes for patients
  3. Identify barriers and blockers that hinder advancing in value-based care
  4. Develop a concrete action plan to adopt in your practice
