More than 450 physicians take action to help remove controversial APRN bill from this week’s voting

House Bill 177, the APRN independent practice legislation, was scheduled for a possible vote in the House Health Committee this week.

OSMA has been opposing this legislation, as it would fragment care delivery by fundamentally changing our current team-based care model and pose patient safety risks. OSMA’s government relations team sent out a call to action last Friday which resulted in an extraordinary response—over 450 physicians, residents, and medical students all over the state reached out to their legislators to express their concerns and to urge them not to support HB 177. Due to our tireless advocacy, the bill was removed from the committee agenda and was not voted on this week.

Thank you to all who have sent a message to their elected official about HB 177. Know that OSMA’s government relations team will keep working on this issue to ensure patients around the state are protected and team-based care remains in place in Ohio! Please keep the messages coming, as the lame duck legislative session will continue for several more weeks, and there will likely be more pressure for this legislation to move forward.
