Ohio’s Vaccine Distribution Update

As we continue to hear from OSMA members with questions about vaccination for physician practices not affiliated with hospitals and health systems, we have notified ODH of specific local level challenges. More vaccine allocations are being sent to local health departments weekly, so we are hopeful this will help with access.

As we reported in December, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) continues to advise local health departments that they should be providing vaccines to the practices that fall into the 1A distribution category.

At this point there is significant variation in how local health departments are signing up physicians and staff to get the vaccine and how quickly they can get it (this is based on vaccine supply and demand at the local level). Many practices have been able to sign up online to schedule an appointment, and have thus received the vaccine—yet others are waiting for further information from the departments.

OSMA staff and physician leadership both continue to be in contact with state officials on a daily basis regarding the vaccine rollout and are constantly advocating for non-hospital affiliated physicians to ensure they are vaccinated as soon as possible.

If you have questions or concerns about your interactions with your local health department in scheduling the vaccine for you or your staff, please email us and we will let the state vaccine team know.
