Update on Legal Action Related to Ohio’s Six-Week Abortion Ban

OSMA recently notified members that on September 14, Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Christian Jenkins ruled that the state Constitution might protect the right to an abortion in Ohio, meaning temporarily, that Ohio’s law returns to 22 weeks as it was prior to the implementation of Ohio’s Heartbeat Bill earlier this summer.

After meeting with attorneys this week, the judge has now indicated he plans to extend the temporary restraining order for an additional 14 days—which would extend it until October 12. This would mean the order would still be in place when past October 7, the time the evidentiary hearing is set to occur.

As soon as we have additional information related to this decision, we will notify OSMA members.
